USDA’s New Direct Assistance to Farmers and Ranchers – The Coronavirus Food Assistance Program
May 21, 2020
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced more information on new direct payments to eligible farmers and ranchers through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). CFAP will provide vital financial assistance to producers of agricultural commodities who have suffered losses due to price decreases, inability to harvest, or spoilage due to crops not being able to be shipped to their final destination from mid-January 2020 to mid-April 2020.
As the pandemic continues, our focus remains to keep our community safe and as financially informed as possible. We urge you to make sure you are prepared to take advantage of this program.
The USDA’s Farm Service Agency will be accepting applications beginning May 26, 2020 through August 28, 2020 for eligible agricultural producers. Please contact the local county Farm Service Agency staff for assistance at (209) 491-9320.
Eligible crops and commodities include non-specialty grains, livestock, dairy, and an extensive list of specialty crops that includes almonds and walnuts. Additional crops may be eligible at a later date per the USDA. To see the full list of eligible specialty crops and commodities and for all the details on how to apply, click here.
More information will be on the horizon from the USDA and GC will continue to bring you relevant and timely knowledge. You can count on us to assist you with any questions about the forms or calculations. Contact Jeff Bowman jbowman@gccpas.net, (209) 527-4220 if you have any additional questions.
